"This opportunity was very good for my students. It added excitement to our social studies class and gave insight into a world and community I could never have introduced the student to on my own. Please keep the program going! It is well worth the funding." "It was exciting to see the students learn a new language. They picked up on the different sounds and words quicker than I did. Many of the students eagerly shared new German words with their families and friends. "This was definitely a good learning opportunity for my students and me. It brought the Philippines, thanks to teacher Lydia Chatto, closer to home. The fun activities and wide range of activities kept the students eager to learn more. It is important to educate our children about cultural diversity and respect of all people. "Mary Chan taught the students all aspects of the Chinese culture and not just the language component. She had an excellent rapport with the students and they looked forward to her lessons. It is very important to me that this program be a part of the study of our Mosaic and racism. It is a program that can be very flexible to the classroom curriculum. "The students were very excited with the hands-on activity (Ukrainian bread making). This was many students' first time to do anything like this. Vickie Balon kept everybody's bread looking good so all the students had a positive experience. These lessons have been a great experience for the children. "I became involved (in the program) to enrich my social studies program and chose Chinese since I had six students of Chinese background. These shy, quiet and hardworking students came to life with the lessons. I saw them interacting more freely, speaking and sharing with ease. I was thrilled. These experiences enrich not only our classroom programs, but also extend far into the community |
